Helping Alton Towers Resort to blast off with Galactica


Alton Towers Resort’s brand new attraction, Galactica, is the world’s first rollercoaster entirely customised for virtual reality. Each Galactica rider wears a special VR headset which completely immerses them in a spectacular virtual flight into deep space.

As long term digital partners of Alton Towers Resort, Headland were asked to support the launch of this amazing new attraction with a range of online marketing activity.

Working to tight deadlines, we designed a suite of banners and animated them with HTML, CSS and Javascript. The resultant banners simulated the sensation of “floating” in space with subtle yet eye-catching animation, which proved to be a big hit with consumers.

In addition to the animated banner campaigns, we also produced a series of responsive HTML emails to support the attraction’s launch. Designed to promote the ride and the resort in a punchy, mobile-friendly format, the emails drove a high amount of traffic to the resort website and short break booking engine.

Headland have worked with Alton Towers Resort and the Merlin group for more than seven years, and it’s always a pleasure to work with their talented team and partner agencies. Our work for them is ongoing with further email campaigns and exciting projects in development.
