KIS-ORCA UK fishing waters mapping website goes live

The Headland designed and built website www.kis-orca.eu was launched in February 2013. The website displays detailed mapping of the renewable energy infrastructure within UK fishing waters, and information relevant to managing fishing vessels and fleets in relation to the challenges this recent subsea infrastructure represents.

We were appointed by and worked closely with The Kingfisher Information Service. Offshore Renewable & Cable Awareness project (KIS-ORCA) is a joint initiative between Subsea Cables UK and Renewable UK and is being managed by the Kingfisher Information Service of Seafish.

The system automatically reads and parses hundreds of megabytes of map data held by Kingfisher to provide a fully layered representation of subsea cables and installations on an interactive Google map.
