Services managed by a local authority cover a broad and complex provision ranging from council tax payment and planning application to collection of recycling. Headland was briefed to design and develop a local authority platform built on the Umbraco CMS that in the first instance would be deployed by Blaby District Council but then could be rolled out to further Leicestershire councils. The platform has new been rolled out to Melton Borough Council going live 2nd September.
The website structure and navigation is such that with minimal updates it can be rolled out to most district councils. The navigation structure ensuring finding the service a visitor requires is simple to find across a vast array of service options either through the navigation or using the site search.
The complexity of services and the potential number of inhouse editors of the website we build significant levels of additional functionality in to the admin area to support the management of the website by the ultimate owners, the communications team.
The collaborative design and development process was initiated by a series of workshops resulting in a detailed specification and an efficient development process rolling out the platform in 6 weeks ready for repopulating by the Melton team.
