A touchscreen interactive timeline an exhibition celebrating the Leicestershire Regiments WWI gallantry

The events, exploits and gallantry of the Leicestershire Regiment, the Leicester Tigers, during 1914–1918, against the broader background of World War I and beyond went without saying, deserved the exhibition dedicated to them.

The Brief
To design and install a touchscreen timeline to form the centrepiece of of an exhibition commemorating the Leicestershire Regiment’s gallantry and exploits in WWI.

The Solution
The application was built to be compatible with both the installation on the museum’s touchscreen and hosting on the Leicester City Council server infrastructure. We built a user interface using jquery, CSS3 and ajax to enable an engaging interactive browsing experience. The timeline is content managed through an Umbraco CMS with events added into the timeline in date order and categorised.

The rich archive is searchable from multiple reference points

Built in Umbraco the interactive provides an intuitive CMS supporting event chronology and responsive for deployment online as well as within a museum setting having been designed for both touchscreen and online
and benefiting from user friendly navigational options

The timeline provides an entirely appropriate presentation of the events relating to the Leicestershire Regiment at this dramatic time in world events.

The action was intense and the key dates numerous, navigating to specific content could be by swiping the timeline or the jump point dropdown

“The timeline has been very well received by all that have used it. My thanks to all of the team, we’re really happy with the results of the project and in our dealings with everyone at Headland. ”
