The challenge

Unity Mutual is the financial services offering from The Oddfellows, the largest and oldest of the UK’s friendly societies with over 300,000 members. In addition to membership, Unity Mutual is one of the original providers of the government’s child trust fund, and offers ISAs, investment funds and protection products to members and the general public alike. The brief to Headland was to deliver a rebranded Unity Mutual website that communicated this broader market positioning and allowed it to grow.

The solution

As with all major projects the development of the Unity Mutual website was initiated through our stakeholder workshop programme. Based on the outputs of the workshops we interpreted the brand guidelines to position the Unity Mutual website as family friendly and simple to use, bringing clarity to financial services for families and an older demographic.

The application flow for all ISA and investment products features clear calls to action for important information, supporting documentation and application, placing transparency before commitment as a priority.

Headland also built calculators to provide indications of return on investment and fund history infographics updated monthly via the CMS. Visitors can apply for products, switch their existing investment or make additional contributions depending on the fund. Online payment can be made by credit card or by direct debit.

The Unity Mutual site is built on the Umbraco platform, fully integrated with payment services and the organisation’s CRM and 3rd party back-office systems.

The results

The online brand, Umbraco CMS platform and integrated financial services application APIs have provided Unity Mutual with a website that effectively addresses the family and 55+ demographic. The website ensures that Unity Mutual are ready to compete in the challenging financial services sector. Headland continues to support the website alongside the IT team.
